The next application period and thank you for the XR year

As 2019 is coming to a close, Nordic XR Startups reveals more about their plans for 2020.

XR had a great year in 2019. We received lots of new hardware, including the game changing Oculus Quest. Consumer hits like Beat Saber continued to do even better. And Valve announced that Half-Life will be back, on VR. What exciting times!

For Nordic XR Startups, it was nice to receive recognition from XR4ALL, who awarded NXS the “XR Investor of the Year” at Stereopsia in Brussels. In addition, NXS portfolio company Grib won “Best Creative Industry Startup of the Year” at Global Startup Awards!

The first two operating years (2017-18) for Nordic XR Startups were structured on batches with a set application period, followed by onboarding the teams at the same time before summer. Slush and X Reality Day acting as a perfect bookend for a six month acceleration period. In 2019 NXS shifted to an ongoing application model, where companies could send an application at any time. This worked great for both NXS and the teams, allowing each case to be evaluated with the diligence they deserved. NXS also had their most varied year yet, with teams from Finland (Grib), Sweden (Fictive Reality), Denmark (MeetinVR) and Iceland (Flow).

The year 2020 will see a combination of the two models for Nordic XR Startups. Now that Slush is a wrap, applications are now closed for the time being. We will take on a full batch again next spring, so follow our Twitter and Facebook channels so you’ll know exactly when that is!

But in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you want to pitch your idea, present your XR product or ask for funding for your company. We’re always happy to talk to promising people about great ideas in XR. You can contact us via info@nordicxrstartups.wpcomstaging.com.

Thank you for this year in XR to all NXS portfolio companies, mentors, partners and anyone touched by the products of our teams. We’ll see you again in full force in 2020.
